The Durham United Negro College Fund Steering Committee will host its annual UNCF Evening with the Stars Gala Friday, Feb. 17 at 7 p.m. at the William & Ida Friday Center Drive, 100 Friday Drive, Chapel Hill.

This year’s event will honor Larry Hall, a longtime member of the N.C. House of Representatives who was recently appointed to the position of Secretary of the North Carolina Department of Military and Veterans Affairs by Governor Roy Cooper, and Durham County Commissioner Brenda Howerton, the President Elect of North Carolina Association of Counties, who will become the President of The State County Commissioners Association in August.

She is the first Durham County commissioner to be elected to a statewide senior leadership office. She also serves on the NCACC's Board of Directors, and Health and Human Services Steering Committee. The UNCF Gala is a fundraiser for scholarships to award to students in need at Shaw University annually.

Entertainment for the evening will be provided by Sweet Dreams. One of the emcees for the evening will be internationally acclaimed jazz performer Eve Cornelious.
