As the State of North Carolina’s agency charged with assisting the nearly 800,000 Veterans and their family members, The North Carolina Department of Military and Veterans Affairs has the responsibility to:

“Provide active outreach to the United States Department of Veterans Affairs, the veterans service organizations, and the veterans community in North Carolina to support and assist North Carolina's veterans in identifying and obtaining the services, assistance, and support to which they are entitled, including monitoring efforts to provide services to veterans, newly separated service members, and their immediate family members and disseminating relevant materials.”

“We are justifiably concerned by the recent occurrence of an incident where a veteran was identified on social media and on WRAL-TV after an individual took photos of veterans which appeared to be neglected in the waiting room of a VAMC Emergency Department. The NC DMVA has full faith and confidence in the Veterans Administration’s Mid-Atlantic Health Care Network and the leadership of the Durham VA Medical Center (DURVAMC) to address and correct these issues,” said Sec. Larry Hall, NC DMVA.

As an active participant in the effort to make Veterans Benefits and Healthcare more accessible, the North Carolina Division of Veterans Affairs maintains an office on the 1st Floor on the Durham VA Medical Center to better assist and inform Veterans during the benefits process. In addition to our staff, the Medical Center has an Administrative Officer of the Day (AOD) on duty 24/7 to assist with any problems encountered by veterans. We will also be placing a worksheet on our website to help inform veterans of the customer service process in the VA.
