2018 Military Women's Health Symposium for Providers

Event Description

This symposium provides a clinical update for VA outpatient physicians and healthcare teams that addresses the unique needs of women veterans and reviews up-to-date and evidence-based guidelines for the work-up and management of health conditions common among women veterans.

Target Audience

Physicians, advanced practitioners, and members of healthcare teams serving women veterans in VA and community healthcare settings.
 



Objectives

  • Review Veteran risk rates for suicide among Veterans by deployment and gender.
  • Conduct primary care examinations utilizing evidence based best practices for transgender patient populations.
  • Recognize the unique aspects of sexual trauma associated with military service.
  • Recognize differences in treatment of hypertension in postmenopausal women.
  • Review incidence of reported chronic pain and opioid use in women Veterans and be able to communicate available alternative treatments for pain management.
