NC Department of Military And Veterans Affairs Celebrates
"Month of the Military Child"
Raleigh The Month of April has been designated as the national “Month of the Military Child”, a time to honor the sacrifices, courage and resilience of the dependent children of service members serving at home and overseas.
This year, the NC Department of Military and Veterans Affairs, in partnership with other organizations, is hosting a “Purple Up! For Military Kids” Day. The event will celebrate military children from elementary schools at Fort Bragg and Camp Lejeune. In addition, the Department sponsored a video competition entitled “What it Means to be a Military Child” and the winners will be announced during the program. The event will take place on April 30th, from 10 AM to 12 PM at the NC Museum of History, 5 East Edenton Street Raleigh, North Carolina.
Students along with their teachers, principals, superintendents and base commanders will travel to Raleigh to meet Secretary Larry D. Hall, Rep. Grier Martin, and Rep. Holly Grange. They will also tour the State Capitol and meet the Cape Fear Heroes Football Team as well the Carolina Mudcats Mascot “Muddy”. Additionally, the following schools will showcase their videos depicting life as a military child: •
- Heroes Elementary School, Camp Lejeune “The Military Kids Alphabet”
- Tarawa Terrace Elementary School, Camp Lejeune, “Jody for the Military Child”
- Bowley Elementary School, Fort Bragg “What it Means to Me”
- Bowley Elementary School, Fort Bragg “Unboxing a Military Child Toy”
