Cheryl Sauls

Cheryl Sauls is the Director of Internal Audit for the North Carolina Department of Military and Veterans Affairs, where she manages the audit function dedicated to providing independent and objective assurance and consulting services to the organization. She is responsible for designing and implementing the annual audit plan, ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of audit deliverables, and presenting findings and recommendations to the Secretary and senior leadership.  

Cheryl has over 20 years of experience in internal auditing, risk management, compliance, governance and accounting. She has extensive knowledge of accounting standards, auditing standards, internal control framework, and regulatory requirements.  

Cheryl holds an Associate in Applied Science degree in Business Administration from Wake Technical College, and Bachelor of Science degrees in Accounting and Business Administration from North Carolina Wesleyan University. She is a member of the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA), Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE), and North Carolina Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (NCASFAA).
