Larry Hall, Secretary of the N.C. Department of Military and Veterans Affairs (DMVA) along with Senator Harry Brown (Onslow County) recently participated in a Veterans Entrepreneurship workshop sponsored by the Carolina Small Business Development fund (CSBDF), Jacksonville-Onslow Chamber of Commerce and JPMorgan Chase & Co. The event was held in Jacksonville, N.C. Attendees included veterans and their spouses as well as local civic and corporate leaders.

In a proactive response to changes in federal defense budget decreases, NC State Industry Expansion Solutions and the North Carolina Department of Military and Veterans Affairs has partnered to create the North Carolina Defense Industry Diversification Initiative (DIDI).

The North Carolina Department of Military and Veterans Affairs has the responsibility to: “Provide active outreach to the United States Department of Veterans Affairs, the veterans service organizations, and the veterans community in North Carolina to support and assist North Carolina's veterans in identifying and obtaining the services, assistance, and support to which they are entitled, including monitoring efforts to provide services to veterans, newly separated service members, and their immediate family members and disseminating relevant materials.”

Yesterday, Secretary Cornell Wilson of the North Carolina Department of Military and Veterans Affairs announced that Governor Pat McCrory signed a proclamation designating November 7-11, 2016 as “Employ a Veteran Week” in North Carolina.  Over the last two years, unemployment among veterans in North Carolina was cut in half.  Under Governor McCrory’s leadership, North Carolina has made remarkable progress through innovative veteran hiring initiatives.

Governor Pat McCrory and Secretary of Military and Veterans Affairs General Cornell Wilson today welcomed James Prosser, U.S. Air Force (Ret.), as the Assistant Secretary for Veterans Affairs. Prosser has extensive experience serving North Carolina veterans as Director of Veterans Services for Mecklenburg County and President of the North Carolina Association of County Veteran Service Officers.  Prosser served for 27 years in the United States Air Force and held various mental health service positions, including Superintendent of Mental Health Services.

Raleigh, NC- A new report released by the North Carolina’s Division of Veterans Affairs (NCDVA) shows a 70% growth in State Veteran Service locations and a 1$ billion increase in compensation awards to North Carolina Veterans since 2013.  Additionally, the report reflects Governor Pat McCrory’s mission of “Making North Carolina the Most Veteran Friendly State in America,” a mission the Governor charged the agency with two years ago.
