Chad Mixon

Chad joined the North Carolina Department of Military and Veterans Affairs as the Deputy Secretary in September 2026. He is a distinguished U.S. Army leader with more than 30 years of service, retiring from Fort Bragg as a Colonel in August 2026. He began his career in 1993 as an enlisted infantryman at Fort Bragg, and rose to become a Ranger, Master Parachutist, and recipient of the Expert Infantryman Badge. He commissioned in 2000 after graduating from UNC Pembroke and went on to hold key roles in U.S. Army Special Operations Command, Forces Command Headquarters, and Joint Special Operations Command. Chad completed seven overseas deployments, including three tours in Iraq, and later commanded the 307th Brigade Support Battalion. In 2024, he became Garrison Commander of Fort Liberty (Fort Bragg), overseeing one of the Army's largest installations.

He holds a master's degree in Logistics from North Dakota State University and is a graduate of the U.S. Army War College. He is married to Charlotte Mixon and is the father of two sons, Chase and Cole.
