Connor Retell

Director of Legislative Affairs

Connor joined the North Carolina Department of Military and Veterans Affairs as Legislative Director in August 2026. Born and raised in Buffalo, NY, he first moved to North Carolina to attend Wake Forest University where he received his B.A. in Politics and International Affairs. Prior to joining DMVA, Connor worked in various campaign and government positions for a Member of Congress that represented his home district in Buffalo. He then accepted the role of Briefer to the Governor in the New York State Executive Chamber where he also aided in regional advance operations.

At the start of the new administration in North Carolina, Connor joined Governor Josh Stein's legislative team where his portfolio included military and veteran issues. While serving in this role, he led the legislative staff's bill review process for the Governor and developed strong working relationships with Members of the General Assembly.

Connor's brother is currently a reserve civil affairs soldier in the Army. His grandfathers also served in the Army.

He and his girlfriend reside in Raleigh, NC. Connor enjoys all sports (especially hockey, football, and golf) and is eagerly awaiting a Bills or Sabres championship victory.
