Judy B. Sanderson
Judy Sanderson is a long-standing member of the North Carolina Department of Military and Veterans Affairs and currently serves as the Director of State Veterans Cemeteries. With eight years of experience in the civilian cemetery sector and more than fourteen years dedicated to Veteran cemetery service, she brings extensive knowledge, steadfast leadership, and a deep commitment to honoring the state’s Veterans and their families.
A proud Veteran herself, Judy served twelve years on active duty in the United States Marine Corps followed by eighteen years with the North Carolina Army National Guard. Her life reflects service, dedication, and compassion—values she carries forward in overseeing the operations and care of North Carolina’s State Veterans Cemeteries.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Judy is a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She believes wholeheartedly that every living being deserves dignity and respect, a principle that guides her daily work and personal outlook. She often remarks that she “might become an activist when I grow up,” a lighthearted reflection of her enduring passion for advocacy and service.
