Kathleen Banks
Kathleen “Kat” Banks currently serves as the North Carolina State Veterans Homes Operations Director for the NC Department of Military and Veterans Affairs. She is a seasoned healthcare executive, Registered Nurse, and Licensed Nursing Home Administrator with over 40 years of experience in the healthcare industry. A passionate advocate for patient-centered care and caregiver empowerment, Kathleen brings a unique blend of clinical expertise, executive leadership, and unwavering commitment to ethical and professional excellence. She believes that caregiving is the art of caring for others unconditionally and that front-line caregivers are the foundation of quality patient care.
Before her time serving as NCDMVA Operations Director, Kathleen began her healthcare journey at just 17 years old in a long-term care facility in Greensboro, North Carolina. Since then, she has held a wide range of impactful roles including Clinical Systems Consultant, Program Coordinator, Executive Director, Senior Nurse Consultant, Director of Nursing, Nurse Investigator, and Healthcare Motivational Speaker. Kathleen was the first Administrator to open the new State Veterans Home in Kernersville, NC. She is the co-founder of Monolia’s Care & Consulting Services, LLC, established in 2002. Under her leadership, the company’s training products and consulting services have been adopted by over 200 colleges, universities, and healthcare organizations across 13 states and internationally in Germany.
Kathleen holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Chamberlain University, a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, and a Master of Business Administration from Winston Salem State University, where she graduated Magna Cum Laude and received the Dean’s Award for Academic Excellence. She is currently pursuing a Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine degree from Kingdom College. Kathleen is a member of the Greensboro Elks Lodge No. 602. She is also a proud member of the Winston Salem Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Kathleen believes with God all things are possible. She is a devoted wife of 40 years to her husband George, a proud mother to two daughters, Kit-Tena (Hilton) and Gereka (Thaddeus), and a loving grandmother to eight grandchildren: Nylah, Hilton, Jeremiah, triplets (Nia, Kyndall, and Payton), London, and Raena. Her life motto is: “Service, there is no other purpose.”
