Sam Metzler

Sam Metzler currently serves as DMVA's Chief Deputy Secretary and is an Army and Army Reserve veteran, joining the Army JAG Corps after graduating from Wake Forest University School of Law. Sam served from 2011 to 2019 and deployed to Afghanistan with the 3d Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 2d Infantry Division, as an operational law attorney; and then as a prosecutor, upon redeployment to Joint Base Lewis-McChord. Upon returning home to Winston-Salem, Sam became involved with the Forsyth County Veterans Treatment Court to continue helping veterans.

Sam spent nearly 10 years as a senior executive at Quality Oil Company in Winston-Salem, ending his time with the company as Executive Vice President of Retail Operations and Dealers. Sam is also the co-founder of an acquisition and consulting group. Sam has a passion for solving complex problems and building strong teams. Sam has been married to Martha for 19 years and they have three sons, Bud (14), Bennett (12) and Finn (8).
