RALEIGH, N.C. – Today, North Carolina Department of Military and Veterans Affairs Secretary Grier Martin announced the department’s recommendation for next steps in providing continuous care for North Carolina’s veterans through the State Veteran Home Fayetteville (SVHF).

For the third year in a row, the North Carolina Department of Military and Veterans Affairs (NC DMVA) is taking part in a national initiative Operation Green Light during the week leading up to Veterans Day (November 4th -11th, 2024) and urging everyone to turn their exterior lights green in honor of our servicemen and women.

After 80 years missing from World War II, U.S. Army Air Forces Staff Sergeant Robert L. Ferris Jr. has finally returned to his family in New Bern. His remains were laid to rest with full military honors at New Bern National Cemetery today.

The North Carolina Department of Military and Veterans Affairs (NC DMVA) has identified significant repair needs and structural deficiencies at the State Veteran Home Fayetteville (SVHF) located on the federal VA hospital campus. In response to these findings, the Department made the decision to close and replace the current facility and assist the 85 residents relocate to other State Veterans Homes or any facility of their choice.
