In advance of the Veterans Day, Governor Roy Cooper has declared November Military Family Appreciation Month and November 5 – 9, 2018 to be Veterans Small Business Week.
“We owe a solemn debt to our veterans and military families," Gov. Cooper said. "North Carolina is the most military-friendly state in the nation and living up to that means helping small businesses owned by our veterans."
Did you know that North Carolina has over 18,000 open IT jobs? This event is aimed at helping veterans, transitioning service members, reservists, National Guard, and military spouses chart their path towards a rewarding career in the IT field. Several industry experts were on hand to share their insights on career opportunities and training pathways available.

Larry Hall, Secretary of the N.C. Department of Military and Veterans Affairs (DMVA) along with Senator Harry Brown (Onslow County) recently participated in a Veterans Entrepreneurship workshop sponsored by the Carolina Small Business Development fund (CSBDF), Jacksonville-Onslow Chamber of Commerce and JPMorgan Chase & Co. The event was held in Jacksonville, N.C. Attendees included veterans and their spouses as well as local civic and corporate leaders.

Yesterday, Secretary Cornell Wilson of the North Carolina Department of Military and Veterans Affairs announced that Governor Pat McCrory signed a proclamation designating November 7-11, 2016 as “Employ a Veteran Week” in North Carolina. Over the last two years, unemployment among veterans in North Carolina was cut in half. Under Governor McCrory’s leadership, North Carolina has made remarkable progress through innovative veteran hiring initiatives.
